"41 Sniper SBD-5 Dauntless - Salvageable items for sale"

Items below are priced per component or "group" of components, as noted. All prices do not include shipping costs. Feel free to browse the construction sections of this site to see these items in more detail prior to the crash. There are much better pics there, but I wanted to show only "post-crash" photos on this page. Many of the items here are in the same condition they were prior to the crash... I've tried to point out any damage on each item.

SECTION 1: Recovered items from the crash site.

Wings

Right Outboard and Center Wing
Major damage, but still useful as reference. Also has many scale details that could be removed and used.

Left Outboard Wing
Damaged, but still useful as reference. Also has many scale details that could be removed and used.

Fuselage, Tail and 2/3 of Interior

Virtually all damage is from the front edge of the canopy forward. Almost completely unscaved from there back to the tip of the tail. Great reference for panel lines, rivets, weathering technique, etc.

This also includes a completely undamaged rear gunner section and center/radio section. All components in those two comparments are still there and in great shape. The gunner turret ring and twin 30's are priced separately. The arrestor hook, tow hook, tailwheel, and many other scale details are still OK. Over 80 hours worth of detail work on the interior alone is still unharmed and useable for another plane.
Asking Price: $275

50 cal NoseGuns & Windscreen Section

This setion includes the top deck and windscreen section where the two 50cal nose guns were. Structurally broken up, but the 50 cal guns are in good shape and reusable. The two gun barrels are undamaged, and the gun breeches have a few small details missing. The windscreen section of the canopy is undamaged and includes the overhead compass.
Asking Price: $40

Rear Twin 30 Guns & Turret Ring

This is definitely a "one-of-a-kind" gun station. Completely hand-made gunner turret ring and twin 30-cal machine guns. Meticulous detail and weathering, the guns rotate on two axis, the chest protectors rotate, the gun magazines rotate and are removable. The ammunition was hand-made from brass by a gunsmith. The brass ammo is a little heavy, so I have lightweight rubber ammo belts (unfinished) from Wms Bros that can be used for flight ammo. This is over $60 worth of material and at least 75 hours worth of work.
Asking Price: $280

Robart Retracts

Tru-Turn
Prop Hub

These are SBD Dauntless retracts custom made by Robart. They were completely undamaged, were still holding air after the crash, and have been operated since then... work fine. This is the "Deluxe" Robart set, including Medium Air Tank, Adjustable Air Valve, Air Filler Valve, Inline Pressure Gauge and misc connectors.

This includes a pair of 5" Dubro LightTread tires (Rubber-coated Foam) and scale aluminum SBD wheel covers.

This is a Tru-Turn scale version of the Hamilton style prop hub used on the SBD. It is undamaged and includes the backplate, adapter, nuts, etc.
Total original cost of this set was $550, plus there is about 12+ hours of detailing, painting and weathering already done on them. These retracts have never had a landing done on them, and never touched anything in the crash. They are brand new, already "scale detailed" retracts.

Cockpit Components & Inst Panels

The pilot's instrument panel is in perfect condition - no damage. Completely hand-made, inclluding the reflector gun-sight... ready for another plane. The large black switchbox panel, also hand-made is in great shape as well. Only damage is a hole in the right side, but it's the area that mounts up against the right-side pilot wall and cannot be seen when installed. Repairing it would be very easy if you really wanted to anyway.
Pilot's seat is undamaged as well and can be removed from the pilot floor easily (held on with nylon screws). Pilot floor is pretty beat up, but good reference for weathering and does have a few good details that can be used. Three wall sections survived the crash to some degree, with a lot of detail components that can be removed and reused. The two throttle quadrants are undamaged as well. This group of details includes a good bit of material and probably 75 plus hours of work.
Asking Price: $175

Engine Cowl

Misc Details

The engine cowl is damaged badly, not worth repairing. However this is great reference for panel lines, rivets, dzus fasteners, etc. It took me weeks and weeks to find the scale information to replicate them... hard to find info! Just a few minor scale details that made it into the trash bag at the crash scene.

SECTION 2: Scale Items that were not in/on the plane when crashed.

Static 3-Blade Prop

3W 21x10 Prop

This extremely authentic Hamilton style 3-blade propellor was completely hand-carved from a 2x4 pine board! This is a good 35-40 hours of work and is highly detailed and weathered.

This is a great item that can be used on a lot of different WW2 planes, and is of special value to me. I'm not worried if I don't sell it, so I'm not going to budge on price here.

This is an extra 3W 21x10 wooden propellor that I had for the FPE Engine in my SBD. Never used.
You will be hard pressed to find even a rough kit for this prop, and you'll pay at least $80 for that, and have a lot of work ahead of you.
Asking Price: $250 Asking Price: $20

Two 1000LB Bombs

This is a pair of the 1000 pound bombs dropped from the center trapeze on the SBD and many other WW2 planes. One bomb is completely detailed, painted and weathered for scale competiton and/or static display. Uses multiple rare earth magnets for attaching. The other bomb is an extra bomb shell, which is exactly what you start with if you buy one of these. You can see how much additional fabrication is needed to get to the finished bomb (fins, spinners, details, etc.).
You could use the second bomb to make a rougher version to be used for actual in-flight bomb drops... that was my plan. Again, this is probably the nicest bomb you will ever find and will work on many WW2 planes... so they're quite valuable. It took me over 6 months to get these in, and lotsa hours of work. The shells alone sell for $20 each if you order them online.
Asking Price: $150

Antenna

Bomb Trapeze

Wheel Chocks

Removable Scale Antenna - includes radio antenna & mast as well as two Yagi Radar antenna. Very nice scale detailed Bom Trapeze, and wingtip Pitot Tube. Trapeze is made in the fixed/retracted position and is not operational. Nice little set of USN Wheel Chocks to hold your plane for static display/competition.
Asking Price: $25 Asking Price: $50 Asking Price: $10

SBD Dauntless Crew Members

The crew of the SBD remains unharmed, as they weren't in the plane at the time of the crash. These "Elite Force" figures have been drastically modified and improved over the stock figures. The uniforms were modified to make them more accurate, including dying the enlisted gunner's uniform to standard navy blues. Everything was meticulously repainted and weathered in artist's oils, then sealed with flat acrylic clear coats... from head to foot.
Another "exceptional" pair of items that can work in a lot of planes or make a great set of display models on their own. Thes sell for about $40-50 a piece online (if you can find them) and have about another 30 hours or so of work put into them. All the original unused Elite Force accessories are included.
Asking Price: $220

SECTION 3: The Engine

FPE 3.2 Gas Engine

This is the FPE 3.2 ci Gas Engine (First Place Engines 52cc) that was in my SBD at the time of the crash. A couple minor cosmetic bruises are the only visible damage. The prop shaft doesn't want to turn over, so I'm not sure what may be going on inside. Maybe something is bent, but it doesn't look like it. I think it's possible the shaft hub is pinched against the crankcase and can easily be repaired.
This Engine includes a Pitts Style muffler, and CH Electronic Iginition. This engine sells for $580 new and mine has only 1/2 tank of gas through it. This is definitely worth repairing.
Asking Price: $290
